Basic Instinct review

Ciara’s most assured, boldest, sexiest and most adult album

Having started her solo career before she turned twenty Ciara Harris known to the world as simply Ciara displayed her passionate female nature already on the last year’s third album Fantasy Ride. Having fun, first dates, first love and the first disappointment were in the past with the only trace being the young performer’s first two creations. Today the singer’s videos are considered to be among the hottest and most sensual; at the same time she keeps making one admire the excellent dance numbers which defined Ciara from the others in the first place. The songs’ themes are changed, too – now a self-confident woman a man must be able to conquer is in the centre of attention, and this year the artist releases her fourth record Basic Instinct, whose title speaks for itself. Inspired by the 1992’s film of the same name starring Sharon Stone Ciara has recorded her most assured, boldest, sexiest and most adult album to date, which is sure to persuade everyone how mature she really is.

The urban collection Basic Instinct

Stylistically Basic Instinct is an urban collection of R&B-compositions and danceable numbers loaded with basses, very reminiscent of Ciara’s early works which is also reflected in the album’s title. On the title track opening the album Ciara is claiming her returning to the older sounding, to bold self-asserting in lyrics which was almost gone on the sensual record Fantasy Ride. The track is filled with self-respect that sounds in the heavy arrangement and the tough rapping contrasting with her sensual vocals. The singer herself, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart are the executive producers on Basic Instinct, but there are some interesting exceptions, for example, the danceable single Gimmie Dat produced by Soundz, with an amazing pulsating beat and Ciara’s provocative singing. Another single Ride featuring Ludacris has already become Ciara’s new hit, and the hot video has driven crazy more than one stronger sex representative. One can value the singer’s vocal skills on a melodious composition Wants For Dinner, a delicious combination of reggae and R&B, while the pop melody and electronic beat are united on a great danceable number Heavy Rotation which will surely become a club hit. Another interesting track is Speechless featuring The-Dream on vocals, it is a very sensual song addressed to a young man, and the album closer Turn It Up is once again collaboration, this time with Usher, which leaves no doubt that Ciara’s voice is going to be heard at night clubs especially often now these day.

Dancing, feelings, passion and self-affirmation

The more active we are in life the faster time flies. Creative people sense it even stronger for their heads are always full of ideas. Adolescence remain in the past in no time, maturity follows it, and one can often see the way an artist’s image and songs’ themes are changing. Ciara’s story is one of the brightest examples of this phenomenon. Yesterday she was a rebelling teenager; today she is a young woman who knows all about her weaknesses and strengths. It is true that she cannot boast an enormous voice range but nobody compares to her in dancing, and hence, the sense of rhythm due to which her singing always pleases the listeners. She takes back the title of one of the boldest performers in the game with the album Basic Instinct, whose nine tracks are enough to convince everyone that Ciara is not going to stay in the shadow. Dancing, feelings, passion and self-affirmation – this is the singer’s personal success formula, and the essential quantity of all of its components can be easily found on Basic Instinct.
