Biography

The British duo Groove Armada, comprising Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, was formed in the middle of nineties in the capital of the United Kingdom. The band’s story began with the starting of their own club Groove Armada, which gave them lots of opportunities to improve musical and creative skills. Thus in 1997 the very first single At The River was released. Later it became one of the duo’s most recognizable songs and it was included into the numerous chill-out compilations.

The musicians started working on the material for their debut album Northern Star, which was issued in 1998. In 1999 it was followed by the second studio attempt Vertigo (the famous At The River was among the tracks in that record). It is worth mentioning that the sound of Vertigo was a bit different from the previous album’s sound. Thereby the second album proved to be successful and it was certified Silver in Great Britain. In 2000 Groove Armada issued the album of remixes The Remixes, and it was really enjoyed by the music lovers. It was followed by the record Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) (2001), which proclaimed the transition from chill-out to upbeat. That experiment was definitely successful, because the record turned out to be original, and the musicians managed to preserve their unique atmosphere of previous works.

The fourth studio attempt Lovebox, released in 2002, presented the incredible variety of different styles: besides the electro music Groove Armada recorded two compositions with elements of rock. Two years later the duo’s discography was enlarged by the wonderful compilation album The Best Of Groove Armada (2004) which included such songs as Superstylin, Purple Haze and many others. The fifth long play Soundboy Rock appeared in 2007 and it had the very interesting sound, combining the elements of electro house and rock. The same year Groove Armada issued the record GA10: 10 Year Story, devoted to the band’s ten years anniversary. GA10: 10 Year Story included the numerous rare compositions.

In 2010 Groove Armada pleased the fans by releasing the new studio work titled Black Light. For the very first time the duo used the 80’s synthesizers, and the fresh sound was enjoyed by music lovers. Traditionally Black Light proved to be the strong record, developing the ideas of Soundboy Rock and Lovebox. There is no doubt that Black Light will be of old fans’ taste, and the ones who are just going to get acquainted with the duo’s creativity will definitely like it as well.
