No Place Like BKLYN review

Jeannie Ortega hopes that her emotions will have an impact on the listeners

Jeannette Ortega was born in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York on November 19, 1986 to a Puerto Rican family. Since childhood the girl started revealing her talents in singing and dancing and performed in parks as a part of a kiddie band Sugar & Spice. Later Jeannie became the member of the first graduate class of Brooklyn’s High School of the Arts. By that time she had already had a couple of self-written songs and everybody around saw a future star in her. After the release of singles It’s R Time and So Done and taking part in the soundtrack of Love Don’t Cost A Thing movie, Jeannie Ortega has finally signed a contract with Holliwood Records and this August her debut album No Place Like Brooklyn has seen the light of the day. Influenced by raggae, R&B and pop the young singer calls herself a hip-hop performer. The new record includes the recent single Crowded featuring Papoose, one of the most popular rappers in present-day America. Young but experienced Jeannie sings about what she feels hoping that her emotions will have an impact on the listeners, and No Place Like Brooklyn pardonably claims to be the best hip-hop album this summer.

No Place Like Brooklyn produces an impression of a gorgeous and memorable album

As if willing to prove she is really talented Jeannie Ortega has written 11 of the 12 tracks on No Place Like Brooklyn herself, and besides there are surprisingly little collaborations for a debut album. The opening single Crowded is not only refined by a verse from Papoose but also has an interesting instrumental background with great flute and keyboards parts. Another rapper Kovas takes part in the bouncy track Pay It perfect to be played in a club. Green I’z is a melodious love song, as well as Can U?, a collaboration witn Quan, a slow and sensitive composition. A real hit So Done is a heartbreaking song about worsened relationship with Jeannie sounding quite mature and able to cope with her despair. Probably the most unusual track on No Place Like Brooklyn is It’s R Time featuring Gemstar, N.O.R.E. and Big Mato due to its reggae-like rhythm and bi-lyngual lyrics. On Bling Jeannie again demonstrates her splendid vocalist skills and hints she is a nasty girl, strong but feminine. Hear Me is a beautiful ballad, adorned with acoustic guitars and softer vocals. The final stylish song Don’t Stop suits best to end No Place Like Brooklyn, contributing to the gorgeous and memorable album.

Jennie Ortega has all the chances to make big

Having grown up in Brooklyn Jennie Ortega has seen a thing a two in her life and knows from her own experience what it means to lose a friend or to be cheated. Her songs are the means to tell the story of a little girl deprived of many joys of the childhood. On the other hand, this is a story of a young woman just entering the world of betrayal and disappointment but still eager to have fun and not hurrying to become an adult. Listening to No Place Like Brooklyn it is easy to catch the gentle notes pointing at Jennie’s soft character and kind heart. Perhaps these qualities are going to bring her more troubles than she expects because it is often hard to survive in the modern show business. Nevertheless the young artist thinks that she has gone through a lot and this has made her stronger and prepared her for the future difficulties. Now she wants to encourage people and show them that if they believe in themselves they get everything they are dreaming of. With such deep understanding of life and a mind hospitable to new ideas Jennie Ortega has all the chances to make big, and her artistry will help her realize herself as a singer, song writer, dancer and actress. Inspired by the success of No Place Like Brooklyn, Jennie is sure to please us with a new creation at an early date.
